How to Buy Jewelry for A Girlfriend

Trying to buy the right gift for someone else presents an age-old challenge: how do you find something that will not only delight them but also say something about what they mean to you?

Tips for Buying Jewelry

Pay Attention to What Jewelry They Wear

Probably the most obvious hint, but also the most valuable. When we buy a gift for someone else, what we really want to say to someone else is that we value them. And nothing is more valuable than attention (all marketing is just a way to buy attention, which should tell you how valuable it is). When we pay attention to someone, we show them we value them. And when we give them a gift that is truly personalized to them, we put that attention into action.

Color is particularly important to notice, as people will often build their entire wardrobe around their favorite colors. We may also want to notice what stones they particularly like, any metal allergies they may have, and what kind of themes/feel they like. Are they into naturey stuff? Do they like things that are more upscale? Or maybe minimalist?

Listen to Them!

Another totally obvious one, but most of the important things in life are pretty obvious. Anyone who's really into jewelry will talk about the pieces they are thinking about buying, what they like about their favorite pieces, etc. By listening to them not only will we buy the perfect gift, but we'll build a stronger relationship with this person that is so important to us by having real conversations about what is important to them.

What Message Does The Gift Say

Anytime we buy a gift for someone, we're not just trying to win their approval. We're also saying something to them. If we buy them something similar to things they already have we're saying that we're paying attention to what they like. If we buy them something that we think they'll like but don't have we're saying we know them so well we know what they're thinking!

Certain gifts also have specific meanings. Each flower, for instance, has its own meaning, which I've covered in another blog. Or let's say for instance the person we're buying for has a jewelry business, and we buy them a tool they've been needing. That would tell them that we support their dreams and want them to succeed!

I'd love it if you'd post your thoughts below about gift-giving, or check out my shop and maybe buy a gift or two!
